Notes:
Several different kinds of sensors are available for soil acoustic measurements. Accelerometers (like the one held in the slide above) detect vibrations rather than sound. Attached to a nail or a stake, they are very sensitive to sounds produced in the 0 - 3 kHz frequency range.
