Florida has over 1700 rivers and streams that are most numerous on the northern and western regions of the state. There are also over 300 natural springs that provide water for many of the rivers and streams. Perhaps the most famous is Silver Springs located in Marion County. Many of the the aquatic insects including stoneflies and caddisflies are indicators of water quality and pollution. Diverse insects and aquatic arthropods are found in the rivers and springs throughout Florida.
